Shannan’s Summary

Mina and her family have moved around her whole life in an effort to stay out of the lime light. That was fine with her since she was only good at messing everything up.  But then during a freek accident on a school field trip, she happened to save her crush and the heart throb of the school.  From that point forward, Mina’s life takes a drastic turn from wall flower to the center of attention.  But she never could have guessed a family curse would be one of the things that noticed her.

First Off…

This book was on the B&N 2.99 and under list and had an interesting premise, so I thought I would give it a try.

Thoughts:

After 2 years, I finally finished this book.  Its not that it’s a bad story, I actually really enjoyed it.  It just wasn’t the most interesting story I was ever reading at one time.  So I kept coming back to it.  Usually as a read while I dry my hair (it’s amazing how much reading you can do when you don’t care about your hair style.) But then something new would come along, or I’d fall out of reading for a while and so it continued every couple months.  But I finally decided to commit to it, and was pretty enthralled by the end of the story.

I thought the characters were well developed.  Mina and her best friend are a well balanced pair, and while there is a hint of a possible love triangle in the next book, nothing really in this one, which I was happy about.  I also really appreciate that no one seems to do a 180 in their character by the end of the book.  Rather they grows in a believable manner that makes them more lovable by the end, but still with room to grow.

The story concept pulled me along more than the characters though.  Hahn created enough mystery that I really wanted to know what was going on, and how it ended.  There were a couple predictable pieces of the story, but on the whole I didn’t really have an idea what was going to happen. There were a couple moments where I wanted to speed read a little, just because they felt a bullet point list of what I need to know, and I prefer if it unfolds a little more naturally.

In the End

It’s not a favorite, but I definitely didn’t feel like I wasted my time or money either.  It was a fun and easy read, and I’ll eventually finish the series.

10 Second Summary:

  1. Interesting premise:  I think this is the best part of the book, it’s a different take on the fairy tales that is thought out.
  2. Easy Read:  It’s not a crazy complex plot (obviously if I could pick it up after months of not touching it)
  3. Enjoyable: I still had fun with the book.  Not a chart topper, but if you want something different this one would be worth a try.

This is a 5 dollars or under book.  Which is what I spent, so I wasn’t disappointed.
