Preparing Kid Rooms for Foster Care

So I think the hardest part of getting ready for kids was preparing the rooms. I think that in part is because we’re taking up to three and have a large developmental age range, in part because we have zero kids right now and are starting from scratch across the board. I wanted to do some fun themed out rooms, but it was going to be hard to make something that would work for any gender from 0-8yo. So we went simple. Right now we have a younger kids’ and an older kids’ room. In the younger room, we put a few animals and literature themed items. I grew up with Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit, so I had to have a little of that. I love the lights. There’s a set in both rooms. I wanted some in this room so we could have a soft light if we needed to check on the littles. Especially if there are two in this room.

In the older room, we put a collection of picture frames with art in them, but then I added clips so they can put any pictures they have up. I got my frames at IKEA but this set would be similar and these might be the exact clip I put on them. If you like the posters, you can find them here. We kept to blues and greens and grays, one because I like it, and two I feel like those colors together are very gender-neutral. The lights were one of my favorite purchases. It will give them some options to make the room their own since there are multiple colors to pick from. And I love that it’s a USB plugin. This is the set I got, and I have some in the basement and another strand I’m trying to decide what to do with.

We’re planning on keeping the rooms for only quiet activities, so we won’t have any toys up there, just some books and any personal items they want to keep.
